Thinking up everyday recipes so you don’t have to.
None of my friends cook and I don’t blame them. New York City doesn’t really scream to a 20-something year old, “Quick! Time to whip up a Boeuf Bourguignon before you head out for drinks with the girls!”
Our kitchens are small, our time is limited, and for me, neighborhood favorites like Tartine, Taim, Morandi, and heck - Ray’s Pizza are right around the corner.
It’s hard to bring NYC’s culinary groove back into your own kitchen but sometimes a girl doesn’t have a choice. Eating out all the time means a shrinking wallet and an increasing waistline, and that’s a trend I would like to see reversed.
For me, cooking brings happiness (most of the time). I find it therapeutic to let go of daily stresses, and concentrate my efforts on whipping simple ingredients into a tasty and satisfying meal. So, the goal of this blog is to share with my friends (and anyone else who might care!) delicious and healthy meals that are super easy to make, even in the tiniest NYC kitchen.
Things to know:
- I dislike measuring - I typically eyeball everything when I cook and will do my best to explain the short and sweet of what’s going into a dish.
- The deal with ingredients - A lot of the times recipes in the same week will have similar ingredients. That’s because I am not preparing a cookbook here. I am a real person that has to buy groceries and I use what I have in the fridge and don’t like things to go to waste.
- Everything is healthy - Because otherwise I would just eat out.
- Breakfast dishes will never be elaborate - I personally need a super quick and super easy to make breakfast, and this is coming from someone who goes to work at 10am.
- If I am feeling ambitious and decide to cook something that is more elaborate, I will be sure to post it with a “Feeling Ambitious?” tag, so you don’t waste your time if you’re not feeling up to it.
- Some recipes my sister Jess (who I live with) and I adapted from various recipes we read about online or in a magazine.
- Some recipes are taken or adapted from the likes of Real Simple, Naturally Thin, SkinnyGirlDish, Cook Yourself Thin (should I go on? Because this is getting sort of embarrassing…)
- Few recipes are “Cheever Sauce” originals, but I am hoping that will change as time goes on…
- My grammar is the worst ;)
